I Heart Cooking! (Buffalo Chicken Dip)

I MOST ABSOLUTELY have to try this ASAP!!!

Coffee With Paula

I’m always looking for snacks that warm my soul but won’t stop the shrinking waist line I have right now. I have a friend who often makes Buffalo Chicken Dip for our gatherings and no matter HOW big of a slow cooker she puts it in…IT AIN’T ENOUGH! Ha!!! Her dip is so very yummy! But today I wanted to try my hand at my own version. I sort of read up on several different versions and came up with the lowest carb version that I could and decided to try it out.

Since I have been trying to cut the carbs, I know this is a dip I can have…I just have to be creative as to what I use to scoop. I choose celery today. Of course for my family, I will have their Fritos Scoops and their Doritos. Otherwise, the only thing I got to eat tonight…

I Need a New Look

I know this is off topic of business but every time I look in the mirror, I say to myself – “I need a new hair do”.  I don’t know how many of you business women take time to think of how you look but personally, I do.

I think that when we look good, we feel 100% good! We can be the best Bosses in the world but if we look in the mirror and our Look is not up to par…that can make us feel kind of depressed.  Not only that, if you do not look good and go to meet your clients, how do you think your clients feel about you?  So I pose this question to all of you business women out there.  Do you feel that your looks  and the way that you present yourself when you meet clients in person has an impact on your business and whether or not you gain them as a client?

The Can-Spam Act

Hey everyone,

I was doing some classwork today and I came across something that I thought was pretty important to us small business owners.  I responded to my classmates but I think you should check out this link

The Can-Spam Act and was passed into law in 2003 by Congress and President George W. Bush.  I had no idea.  Apparently, many people do not care about this law, or either it is not enforced.  In my text book, it states that it was created:

“To address the negative aspects of spam, Congress passed and President George W. Bush signed into law in 2003 the CAN-SPAM Act.37 The act’s title represents a tortured acronym for a bill officially called the “Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003.” It applies to “commercial electronic mail messages” that have as their “primary purpose” the “commercial advertisement or promotion of a commercial product or service” (Pember & Calvert 2015, pp. 606).

I mainly wanted to discuss this because a lot of people may become unsuspecting victims of malware, spyware, and hacking of their computers if they do not know how to scroll over the senders’ name of an email that was sent to them.  Five specific components of the Can-Span Act are:

1.  False and Misleading Messages, 2. Functioning Return Address and Opt-Out Mechanism, 3. 10 Day Prohibition Period, 4. Disclosure Requirements, and 5. Aggravated Violations (Pember & Calvert 2015, pp. 606).

If you can,, please look up these components in the Pember & Calvert book, or you can just Google this information.  Additionally, I want you to be safe and not get hacked so  please be careful with emails that are sent to you.  MANY of them are meant to hack your computer and please do NOT click on any links in emails that you do not know who sent them.

Do You Prefer Resumes or Bios?

Not long ago I had a client call me in a panic because she had and interview the next day and had lost her resume that I created for her previously.  Additionally, she somehow erased her resume that I sent to her via email as well and needed to send a copy to her agency that same day.  She is not very computer savvy and actually has no interest in learning because she is a very busy person and a Nanny who likes to stay on the move.  She really does not like computers at all which is why I can’t understand why she would want an email address and a website.  However, she is my client and whatever she wants, I provide.  Somehow, she lost her email address and password and let the website get cancelled.

I told her not to worry and suggested that we do a Bio for her this time since she was going for another Nanny position.  She loves texting so I asked her to text me a recent photo of herself with her scrubs on so that I could use it for her new Bio.  Once I received her photo, I uploaded it to my computer and created a very impressive Bio and sent it to her agency the same day.  I also created a new email address for her and wrote it down as well as her new password.  Then, I sent a copy of her new Bio to her new email and her phone.

The next day, she came to my home to pick up hard copies of her Bio (which she loved) after her interview.  She did get the JOB!!!  While at my home, I gave her a quick tutorial about her new email and how to send attachments to people via email.

I did not charge my client for the Bio or the training this time because I knew she was in panic mode because her last Nanny assignment had ended and she was strapped for money.  She has been a client for a long time and has paid me well in the the past.

Guess what happened, about two days after she started her new job, another agency called her and wanted her to send them her Bio via email.  BUT — she could not find her new email address or password and had accidentally deleted the text version as well.  🙂nanny-bio2

If You Don’t Know,Ask YouTube

I just wanted to share with you that I love YouTube.  I go to it whenever I need to do research and to learn something new.  I recently have learned about new hairstyles that I tried and looked fabulous.  I learned how to do voice over presentations to train staff.  I learned how to make candles from the best in the business.  There is nothing, no subject that is too small or too big for  YouTube.  If you want to learn something new, don’t be afraid to Ask YouTube!

I Really Love My Job!

It has been a VERY long time since I had a job that I really enjoyed.  You know what I did, I stepped out on faith.  I had been working a dead end job as an Accounts Payable Associate for over two and a half years.  I hated it.  I fell into that job after being laid off from a job that I really enjoyed as an HR Coordinator back in 2012 which was only fifteen minutes away from my house.  That job paid very well and it allowed me to help people become employed.

I have always had my company Curry Creations since 1997 but being that I do not have a steady flow of clients that can afford me the luxury of not working for anyone else, I get jobs that know how to do.  Fortunately, I know how to do many things and I have the temporary agencies to thank for that because whenever I found myself to be between jobs, the temp agencies have always been able to place me somewhere.

My Accounting job though was awful.  It was an hour away from my home and it was more of a Data Analyst position than Accounting.  They paid accounting salary but had us doing data analyst work (sneaky).  They never gave me a raise and I was miserable for a long time.  I used to dread going to work and would cry all the way there most days.  The Accountant that I worked with was very condescending and kept up mess….she spoke to me like I was beneath her (I have a college degree also — in Accounting).  I had to speak to management about her several times and I even asked if I could be transferred to another department.  NOT.

To make a long story short, I just stopped going after much mental anguish and thought, and after missing many days and getting into trouble about my attendance.  I just prayed to God and I never went back after calling in sick on  Wednesday, July 19, 2018.  I was scared to the point that the following Monday I had an anxiety attack out of no where and my blood pressure sky rocketed.  I thought I was going to die.  I called the Paramedics and they came to take at look at me…my heart was fine.  They asked me if I had been stressed lately and I told them yes.  I kept drinking water and my boyfriend, whom I had called earlier and told him that I did not feel well, had left work to come and make sure I was okay.

A month later, I got a job that I had interviewed for several months earlier.  It is where I work at now and is only 10 minutes away from my home.  Also, on this job I am a Quality Improvement Officer (official name – boss title) 🙂   I love it because I am part of management now and I am treated with respect and everyone gets along.  The best part is that the company I work for helps people.  They work with developmentally and intellectually disabled individuals.  They care about people and I love working with them.  I get the opportunity to use my creative abilities, I train staff, and I work from 10 til 3:30 part-time, Monday through Thursday– Sweet.  The only thing that could be better is more money.  Eventually, I will get there.  Come to think of it, I have been praying for a job where I work from 10 til 4 for a long time.  Here it is!
